Infertility and Chiropractic Sacro Occipital Technique Management of a Thirty Four Year Old Woman with Infertility, Martin G. Rosen, DC, CC, CSP Bio
Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research December 17, 2003, pp 1-4

  • Objective: This article presents a discussion of the response to corrective chiropractic care, specifically Sacro Occipitial Technique, in a woman with a history of infertility.
  • Clinical Features: On January 10, 2000, a thirty-four year old woman presented for chiropractic care. Her concerns listed a variety of conditions, including a history of infertility. With her first child, she had attempted to get pregnant naturally but was unable to. Medical treatment included fertility drugs that were unsuccessful, but she was able to conceive through in vitro fertilization. Her son was born on July 3, 1998. Approximately one year after his birth she attempted to naturally conceive a second child, but was unsuccessful. Her clinical history revealed a number of gymnastic injuries over a twelve-year period and several “minor” car accidents. She suffered from chronic back pain and spasms for years, occasional neck pain, and a chronic condition of unknown etiology that caused her hands and feet to be painful and difficult to use in the morning.
  • Conclusion: This patient made no other alterations in her lifestyle or clinical situation besides the addition of chiropractic care to afford the positive outcome of increased fertility. Correlation of clinical findings support the reduction of the patient’s subluxation complex and changed neurophysiological parameters. As infertility is a growing concern, and existing medical alternatives offer limited success and while involving a myriad of concerns for the patient, it is prudent to consider other less invasive and costly approaches for dealing with interference to fertility.
Successful Pregnancy Following Diagnosis of Infertility And Miscarriage: A Chiropractic Case Report
Leslie Bedell, D.C. Bio
Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research December 2, 2003, pp 1-7
  • Objective: This case describes the chiropractic care of a woman with a history of infertility and miscarriage.
  • Clinical Features: A 27 year old female presented for chiropactic care to improve her overall health, in the hope that she may ultimately be able to have a child. In the previous year she had suffered 2 miscarriages, and had been anovulatory for 9 months. She was under medical treatment for infertility and ulcerative colitis, and followed a restrictive diet. Prior to attempting to become pregnant, she had been on the birth control pill for 7 years.
  • Conclusion: This case report of a woman with a history of infertility and miscarriage contributes to the growing body of literature on the response to chiropractic care among infertile women. The article discusses the impact of stress on a woman’s nervous system, and the possible associated changes in reproductive health. Further research is called for to evaluate the safety, cost, and effectiveness of chiropractic care in women’s health.

Response to Gonstead Chiropractic Care in a 27 year old Athletic Female with a 5 year history of Infertility
Daniel D. Lyons, DC, LCP Bio
Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research November 9, 2003, pp 1-3
  • Objective: This article describes the chiropractic care of a 27 year old athletic female with a 5 year history of infertility.
  • Clinical Features: Following a marathon, the subject experienced an unresolved injury and sought out chiropractic care. The initial chiropractic evaluation revealed a history of numerous alterations in physiological function, including low back pain, constipation, neck pain, headaches, loss of balance, tension, as well as 5 years of infertility which medical treatments had been unsuccessful for.
  • Conclusion: One month after the application of chiropractic care, marked reduction in dysautonomia and dysponesis is demonstrated, and while previously infertile for 5 years this woman conceived and sustained a successful pregnancy. Further research is suggested examining the application of chiropractic care and associated restoration of function, including reproductive function.
Female Infertility and Chiropractic Wellness Care: A Case Study on the Autonomic Nervous System Response while Under Subluxation Based Chiropractic Care and Subsequent Fertility
Tammy M. Kaminski, D.C. Bio. Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research November 2, 2003, pp. 1-10
  • Objective: This case study describes a woman, previously diagnosed with a lazy (reproductive) system, who became pregnant after commencing subluxation-based chiropractic care.
  • Clinical Features: A 31 year old woman presented to have her nervous system evaluated after her husband’s encouragement. They were under medical treatment for infertility as they had been attempting to become pregnant for over 12 months, and the woman had been taking Clomiphine Citrate (clomid) for 3 months. Her previous child, three years old, had been conceived naturally.
  • Conclusion: After receiving wellness chiropractic care for the detection and correction of vertebral subluxations, the practice member showed marked improvement in autonomic and motor system function as demonstrated on her sEMG and thermography scans. In additon, after having great difficulty conceiving, she became pregnant nine months after commencing chiropractic care. Further studies are needed to document the relationship between infertility, autonomic nervous system function, and the response to wellness chiropractic care, including subsequent fertility.
The Resolution of Chronic Colitis with Chiropractic Care Leading to Increased Fertility   Charles L. Blum, D.C  Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research 2003 (Aug 31): 1-5
  • Introduction:   A 32-year-old female presented at my office for chiropractic care of her chronic colitis and did not disclose her condition of infertility during the course of care at this office. There appears to be some relationship between chiropractic care and relief of some visceral conditions relating to the colon and female reproductive organs.
  • Results:   The patient had her chronic condition of colitis relieved and relatively simultaneously became pregnant after giving up on allopathic fertility treatments for 7 years.
  • Conclusion:   As with all single subject case studies it is difficult to extrapolate finding from one result to treatment to the populous at large, however due to the success in this case further studies appear to be indicated.
Successful In Vitro Fertilization in a Poor Responder While Under Network Spinal Analysis Care: A Case Report
Simon A. Senzon, M.A., D.C. Bio Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research September 14, 2003, pp 1-6
  • Objective: This case report describes the successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) of a 34 year old female who had one previous aborted IVF attempt prior to Network Spinal Analysis (NSA) care. This case report is being presented to add to other case reports that show positive physiological changes in patients receiving NSA care.
  • Conclusion: On the second IVF attempt, estradiol was 1001pg/ml on day 8, and 2019pg/ml on day 11, with LH at 9.3. The Oocyte retrieval after the second attempt was 10 eggs, each approximately 18mm. A successful aspiration of eggs was completed on 6/17/02, and a successful pregnancy followed. The patient is still under NSA care, and is now in her second trimester with normal fetal heart sounds. The possible role of NSA care in the vigorous follicular growth and other health benefits is discussed.
Insult, Interference and Infertility: An Overview of Chiropractic Research   Madeline Behrendt, D.C.   Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research 2003 (May 2):   Special Infertility Issue
  • The application of chiropractic care and subsequent successful outcomes on reproductive integrity, regardless of factors including age, history and medical intervention, are described through a diversity of chiropractic arts. Future studies that may evaluate more formally and on a larger scale, the effectiveness, safety and cost benefits of chiropractic care on both well-being and physiological function are suggested, as well as pursuit of appropriate funding.
Chiropractic and Nutritional Management and its Effect on the Fertility of a Diabetic Amenorrheal Patient: A Case Report
John P. Adams, D.C. Bio Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research October 12, 2003, pp 1-2
  • Objective: To study the effect of chiropractic care and nutritional supplementation on the fertility of an insulin dependantfemale presenting with primary amenorrhea.
  • Clinical Features: A woman in her early twenties is followed through a twenty-month course of care with a subluxation-based chiropractor who specializes in Applied Kinesiology (AK). AK is a functional neurologic assessment process that extends the neurological examination, utilizing manual muscle testing to identify subtle shifts away from optimal neurologic status. The patient in this study reported that she had never been able to have menses without the use of birth control medication. She was an insulin-dependant diabetic who complained of chronic lower extremity skin lesions as well as hip and knee pain. Her course of care consisted of chiropractic adjustments to remove spinal subluxation, manual correction of uterus malposition, and nutritional supplementation.
  • Conclusion: This young woman experienced normal menstrual function for the first time without medication, following specific chiropractic subluxation correction and adjunctive nutritional support. It is significant that her care was designed to support natural bodily function by decreasing nerve interference and supplying nutritional building blocks. The culmination of this approach was the appreciative subject’s experience of pregnancy and motherhood.

  • This is the case history of a 36-year-old woman who had been medically tested and examined for infertility for a year. No abnormalities were found in her or her husband's reproductive system. When she finally sought chiropractic care she also had pelvic pain (often interfering with sleep) low neck and upper back pain, headache of two weeks duration and tinnitis of several year's duration. Chiropractic care adjusted C1-2, T11-T12, and L-4-5. Care was three times a week for two weeks, twice a week for four weeks and once a week for 3 weeks. The pelvic, tinnitis lower neck and upper back pain were improved. Headaches became mild and rare. Patient became pregnant shortly thereafter and had an uncomplicated delivery. Below is the story of a California woman who was given a 5 percent chance of ever pregnant, even with in vitro procedures and who became pregnant after chiropractic adjustments to her lower spine released subluxations.
A new series of case studies was published and made the news in a big way. Madeline Behrendt, D.C., who has written several articles in the JVSR on infertility was interviewed, and they are including Chiropractic in their segment! This aired nationally on CBS. • Female - Age 32 - Prior Care - Medical -fertility pills, shots - negative results. No menses for 12 years. After two months of chiropractic care, menses resumed. Patient complained of abdominal discomfort during cycle. It was my feeling that this would be natural occurrence following an absence of menses for 12 years. Her menses occurred on a regular cycle for four months when she conceived. She was referred back to her medical doctor for confirmation of pregnancy. Her doctor informed her it was impossible for her to be pregnant - after all, he had done everything medically possible "and besides, there were no nerves emitting from the spine to the reproductive organs." A few months later she delivered a healthy seven 1/2-lb. son. The major area of the spine adjusted in this case was the lumbar region.
  • Female - Age 26 - Had been trying to get pregnant for past few years wit negative results. She had taken the medical route with fertility pills, shots, etc. Had a severe scoliosis (Cobb's angle of 58°) and upon examination, I informed her that I felt we could not affect the Cobb's angle and that possibly the severity of the curve with the subluxations present could be the reason for the lack of her body's ability to conceive. At the end of six months, X-Rays revealed the Cobb's angle was reduced to 47°. Approximately one month later, she became pregnant and remained under care throughout the pregnancy and delivered a fine baby with no complications. The areas adjusted were sacrum, lumbar and cervical spine. No side posture moves were utilized in this case.
